Session 3: Learning Tools and Social Bookmarks

Please note that although there are many web technologies which could be classified as "learning tools" we will only concentrate on one or two because of time constraints. However I hope you will continue to be life long learners and continually search for and use other learning tools.

  1. Learning Tools: tools that allow users to create documents
  2. Social Bookmarks: online applications that organize, store, tag and share website URLs.

Learning tools include three areas:
  1. Productivity
  2. Simulations
  3. Virtual Manipulatives

We will primarily focus on Google productivity tools. This would include word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, calendar, mail, etc. With these Google productivity tools students and teachers would be able to access their work from any location and at any time.

Session 3 Assignment:
Write your reaction to social bookmarking (advantages or disadvantages) using a Google Docs. Give an example of how it could be used in the classroom. Share your Google Docs URL in the discussion tab of Section 3.
